建立于1917年的北京協(xié)和醫(yī)學(xué)院，是中國八年制醫(yī)學(xué)教育、高等護(hù)理教育和公共衛(wèi)生教育的發(fā)源地，百年來培養(yǎng)了包括林巧稚、黃家駟、吳階平在內(nèi)的大批醫(yī)學(xué)泰斗，成為中國現(xiàn)代醫(yī)學(xué)諸多學(xué)科和專業(yè)的奠基者、開拓者和引領(lǐng)者。進(jìn)入新百年、新時代，中國作為世界第二大經(jīng)濟(jì)體，正以“健康中國”為目標(biāo)努力提升醫(yī)學(xué)教育和科技水平，改進(jìn)醫(yī)療體系的質(zhì)量和效率，而協(xié)和醫(yī)學(xué)院這所殿堂級的醫(yī)學(xué)學(xué)府也煥發(fā)出勃勃生機(jī)。2018 年，在王辰校長的堅定推動下、國家教育部和衛(wèi)健委的大力支持下，北京協(xié)和醫(yī)學(xué)院率先在中國開啟了“臨床醫(yī)學(xué)專業(yè)培養(yǎng)模式改革試點(diǎn)班”（簡稱“4+4”試點(diǎn)班），面向全球高水平大學(xué)招收包括理科、工科、文科等多學(xué)科背景的優(yōu)秀本科畢業(yè)生接受醫(yī)學(xué)教育，學(xué)制 4 年，合格畢業(yè)生均授予醫(yī)學(xué)博士學(xué)位。
“4+4”試點(diǎn)班旨在培養(yǎng)思想品德高尚、具有寬厚的知識基礎(chǔ)、扎實(shí)的臨床技能和優(yōu)秀的職業(yè)素養(yǎng)，并具備多種發(fā)展?jié)撃埽非笞吭健⒁I(lǐng)未來的醫(yī)學(xué)領(lǐng)軍人才，為此學(xué)校提供最優(yōu)質(zhì)的醫(yī)學(xué)教育資源。
北京協(xié)和醫(yī)學(xué)院與中國醫(yī)學(xué)科學(xué)院實(shí)行院校合一的管理體制，是中國最高水平的醫(yī)學(xué)教育機(jī)構(gòu)和醫(yī)學(xué)研究機(jī)構(gòu)，擁有包括北京協(xié)和醫(yī)院（臨床醫(yī)學(xué)研究所、全國疑難重癥診治指導(dǎo)中心）、阜外醫(yī)院（國家心血管病中心）、腫瘤醫(yī)院（國家癌癥中心）、整形外科醫(yī)院（整形外科研究所）、血液病醫(yī)院（血液學(xué)研究所）、皮膚病醫(yī)院（皮膚病研究所）等6家國內(nèi)頂級的直屬醫(yī)院，為醫(yī)學(xué)生提供最優(yōu)質(zhì)的臨床學(xué)習(xí)平臺。院校體系同時擁有19個研究所、9個學(xué)院和106個院外研發(fā)機(jī)構(gòu)，形成開放型國家醫(yī)學(xué)科技創(chuàng)新體系。包括26名兩院院士在內(nèi)的上千位博士生導(dǎo)師將指導(dǎo)學(xué)生開展國際領(lǐng)先水準(zhǔn)的醫(yī)學(xué)創(chuàng)新研究。
北京協(xié)和醫(yī)學(xué)院的“4+4”醫(yī)學(xué)教育模式有三大妙處：

Founded in 1917, Peking Union Medical College is the birthplace of China’s eight-year medical education, higher nursing education, and public health education. It has nurtured a large number of distinguished medical experts since the past century, including Lin Qiaozhi, Huang Jiasi, and Wu Jieping, who are the founders, pioneers, and leaders of multiple disciplines of modern medicine in China. China, as the world’s second largest economy, is gearing up in the new era to update its medical education, science, and technology, and to promote the quality and efficiency of its medical system, in its initiative to build a “Healthy China”. This campaign has further empowered Peking Union Medical College as the leader of medical education in China. In 2018, Peking Union Medical College took the lead in China to initiate the “4+4” MD Program as advocated by President Wang Chen, and by both the Ministry of Education and the Health Commission. The “4+4” MD Program is designed to recruit candidates from elite universities at home and abroad, aiming at their outstanding undergraduate graduates with multidisciplinary backgrounds including science, engineering, liberal arts and other disciplines. They will receive a 4-year medical education at PUMC, and obtain a doctoral degree in medicine after graduation.
The “4+4” MD Program is dedicated to cultivating medical leaders with high morality, a vast knowledge base, solid clinical skills, and excellent professional qualities, who have potentials for further development and leadership in the future. To maximize support to our students, Peking Union Medical College provides the highest quality of medical education resources. The Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College share the same organization framework and mark the highest level of medical education institutions and medical research institutions in China. Under PUMC are six flagship hospitals in China, including Peking Union Medical College Hospital (Clinical Research Institute, National Diagnosis and Treatment Guidance Center for Difficult and Critical Diseases), Fuwai Hospital (National Cardiovascular Disease Center), Cancer Hospital (National Cancer Center), Plastic Surgery Hospital (Plastic Surgery Institute), Hematology Hospital (Hematology Institute), Dermatology Hospital (Dermatology Institute). Three major advantages of the “4+4” MD Program:
First of all, we enroll students with multidisciplinary backgrounds to study and practice medicine: by selecting undergraduate students with various undergraduate majors who devote themselves to medicine, the “genes” of multidisciplinary disciplines will be integrated into medicine, and further enrich the multidisciplinary nature of medicine.
Secondly, we enroll those who are devoted to medical study and practice: we appreciate young students who have a real interest in medicine with passion and determination for medical study and practice upon deliberate consideration during the period of undergraduate study and experience.
Finally, we enroll the best talents from all over the world to study medicine: through a rigorous admission and training process, we inspire our students grow into the next generation of medical leaders.
The “4+4” MD Program has enrolled 4 classes of students so far, receiving applications from outstanding undergraduates from top-level domestic and international universities, including graduates from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore and others. The undergraduate majors of our students cover such a variety of disciplines such as life sciences, chemistry, physics, engineering, geology, mathematics, informatics, economics, psychology, etc. The first class of our “4+4” MD Program is scheduled to graduate in 2023 and practice at major hospitals including PUMC Hospital, and thus start their medical career.
